MELBOURNE | Dr. Morse Abbotsford is a bar that somehow missed our radar when it first opened. We passed by earlier this year, and to our surprise discovered a bar full of good things that we didn’t know existed. Located next to Victoria Park Railway station, Dr. Morse offers coffee from a side window (Jr. Morse) by the day, before transforming into a proper bar in the evenings.
The inside is modern yet cozy, and venture out the back and a surprisingly spacious beer garden awaits, complete with covers and heaters and a barbecue which make Dr. Morse a great space all year round.
The drinks list is impressive, with a good selection of local and international craft beers along with a range of impressive and accessible wines and creative cocktails. Food is much more than an afterthought too, with the Modern Australian/Asian inspired menu featuring an array of enticing options. Try the panko-crumbed eggs Benedict with sriracha hollandaise, or the pigs ear crisps with wasabi mayo.
There’s a mural at Dr. Morse from one of the building’s earlier incarnations advertising “Dr Morse’s Indian Root Pills” as a cure to all sorts of ailments. Whether they worked or not is something that’s been left to the ages, but we know that a visit to Dr. Morse always makes us feel better. We only wish that we’d discovered the place sooner.
