MELBOURNE | G Grill Souvlaki Bar is a no nonsense Greek eatery that’s recently opened up on Lygon Street in Brunswick East. Owner Mikos and his son offer up a range of tasty souvlakis along with meat platters, salads, vegetarian plates and sides. It’s a no nonsense space too – open, bright and white with blue accents here and there. It does the trick, but could be more inviting.
We’ve tried a few souvlakis since the place opened and, being just around the corner from TCL HQ, G Grill has become a bit of a default lunch option for us. The meat is tasty and tender (the lamb souvlaki is our favourite, the feta chips are chunky and tasty and it’s all filled in soft, pillowy pita and drizzled with a secret “G-Grill sauce”. For those looking for a drink, a focused selection of Greek soft drinks, water, beer and wine is on offer.
While G Grill’s claims of offering up “the best Souvlaki in Melbourne” might be a bit of a stretch, it’s certainly top 10 material and a great local’s spot. The food is tasty, keenly priced, and will have you returning for more. Sometimes, good versions of the classics are all you need.
